Five-time Dancing with the Stars winner Derek Hough will star alongside the previously announced Laura Benanti in the Rockettes' New York Spring Spectacular. Performances will run from March 12 through May 3 at Radio City Music Hall. Opening night is set for March 26.
Both Hough and Benanti have been seen on TV in Nashville; Hough's additional screen credits include Make Your Move. His on stage credits include Footloose: The Musical in London's West End.
Hough will play Jack, a man with a mission who will receive a reward if he's able to help a man named Bernie keep his position as a New York City tour guide. Bernie's job is in jeopardy when Jenna (Benanti) reveals her plan to take the tour company "virtual." The show will include Rockette dance routines reworked from Heart and Lights, which canceled its premiere earlier this year. In addition to the iconic moves of the Rockettes, the new production will feature puppetry and 3D special effects. So You Think You Can Dance's Mia Michaels will choreograph the first number of the show.
Penned by Joshua Harmon, the new show featuring the iconic New York dance troupe will celebrate the charm of the Big Apple, complete with the voices of Whoopi Goldberg and Bella Thorne as the voices of the Statue of Liberty and the Alice in Wonderland statue, respectively. The production will be directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, with Diane Paulus and Randy Weiner as co-creative directors. New York Spring Spectacular will be produced by MSG Entertainment and The Weinstein Company (which is working with Paulus on Finding Neverland).
